‘The First Frost’ finally reveals why Sang Yan was pretty drunk at the graduation party shown in ‘Hidden Love’

 This is so adorable.

The First Frost, Hidden Love

Remember the scene when Duan Jiaxu (Chen Zheyuan) comes to drop a drunk Sang Yan (Victor Ma) at his home in ‘Hidden Love’? Well, no one can forget it because that incident catapulted our lovebirds Jiaxu and Sang Zhi (Zhao Lusi) to have a romantic heart-to-heart moment, where the male lead vaguely speaks about the hardships of his life and Sang Zhi promises she’ll work hard and become successful to help him out in the future.

What we didn’t know was that Sang Yan chose to drown himself in alcohol out of heartbreak. The only thing that was shown in ‘Hidden Love’ was Sang Yan saying, “What’s good about Yihe?” and getting sloshed but now its spin-off series ‘The First Frost’ has given us the real answer.

Moments before the graduation dinner, Sang Yan was rejected by Wen Yifan (Zhang Ruonan).

The truth was out when Wen Yifan goes to San Yan’s (played by Bai Jingting in ‘The First Frost) bar with her work colleagues. One of the male lead’s junior spoke about the story of the two legends of the Computer Science department Sang Yan and Duan Jiaxu from their graduation dinner.

One didn’t drink a sip of alcohol, while the other gulped over 10 bottles like water. He revealed the one who got sloshed was Sang Yan and the sober one Duan Jiaxu later dropped him home. We now know that the reason behind his alcohol escapade was Wen Yifan’s betrayal. The two had promised to go to Nanwu University for further studies but Yifan secretly changed her plan and applied to Yihe University.

And the way she broke the news to Sang Yan was also quite devastating, she asked him to not bother her in the future. And that brings us to the first episode of ‘The First Frost’ where a heartbroken Sang Yan asks Yifan if he was just her “backup” option.
